Musical Connections:
Developing life-long learners through Music Education
Spend a fun-filled morning learning about music and how it benefits your students. We will explore different learning styles through a variety of sessions. The Teachers Institute is free to all ETM Partner Schools. Full-time classroom teachers will be paid $150.00 for completing the workshops and an evaluation form. Space is limited to 75 teachers per site, so sign up as soon as possible to reserve your space.
Each participant will attend the general session AND two break-out sessions. Please select TWO sessions you would like to attend.
REACHING SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS THROUGH MUSIC - Teachers will learn techniques on how to communicate more effectively with special needs students using music as a tool.
CHORAL SESSION - Singing in an ensemble builds confidence, cameraderie, and independence. Teachers will be exposed to a variety of repertoire, while preparing musical selections. Experiencing first-hand the discipline needed to learn a song may prove helpful in understanding the challenges faced by our students. Participants will perform for their colleagues in the afternoon.
RECORDER SESSION - Developing fine motor skills and coordination is a hefty challenge for students and teachers alike. In this session, teachers will be taught recorder technique thorugh a variety of performance repertoire. Participants will perform for their colleagues in the afternoon.
LITERACY and MUSIC - Teachers will learn techniques for teaching literacy through music. A variety of books will be showcased for different age levels. Musical concepts will be brought to the forefront of these books, allowing for a more interactive experience for your students.
PERCUSSION SESSION - Participants will learn proper drumming technique through a hands-on approach. Teachers will play a variety of drums while learning about different musical styles and cultures. Participants will perform for their colleagues in the afternoon.
